We collect your car

Once the agreement is signed and onboarding is complete, we collect the vehicle from your location and bring it to our facility in Marshlands.

Professional preparation

Your $495 onboarding fee covers professional photography, GPS installation, a Certificate of Fitness, and full listing setup. We present the car the way it deserves — and make sure it's road-ready from day one.

We manage everything

Bookings, guests, handovers, cleaning, insurance — all handled by us. You don't need to be involved in day-to-day operations.

How it works

Keep it at home. We come to you.

Sign the agreement

Once the agreement is in place, your car stays with you. We come to you — you don't need to do a thing until a booking is confirmed.

We give you notice

When a booking is confirmed, we'll give you at least 48 hours' notice and collect the car from your location. We aim to give as much advance notice as possible.

We return it clean and full

After every hire we return the vehicle to you with a full tank of fuel, cleaned and presented to the same standard we hand it to guests.

You earn, monthly

How we price your car

We don’t race to the bottom.

We price every vehicle to reflect what it genuinely is — not to win a comparison with budget hire companies. Our guests choose Dream Drives because they want a specific car and a specific experience. They’re not shopping on price alone.

That means we’d rather have fewer, better bookings than fill every day at a rate that undersells the car. We actively prefer guests who value what they’re driving — and our pricing reflects that.

You’ll always know what your car earned, what rate it went out at, and why. No surprises.

Vehicle standards

The kind of cars we work with

We run a curated fleet. Every vehicle needs to be something our guests actively choose — for how it drives, how it looks, and how it makes them feel. Brand matters less than condition, character, and capability.

We’re looking for

  • Premium or performance vehicles in excellent condition
  • Model year 2010 or newer (exceptions for classics with real character)
  • Well-maintained with full service history
  • Clean, damage-free presentation inside and out
  • Vehicles guests would choose for the experience, not just the transport

Not the right fit

  • High-mileage daily drivers
  • Vehicles with cosmetic or mechanical issues
  • Standard economy or fleet-spec cars
  • Anything that needs work before it’s road-ready

The $495 onboarding fee covers professional photography, GPS installation, Certificate of Fitness, and full listing setup. This is a one-time cost — there are no ongoing fees. We cover the COF as part of onboarding.

Track everything, anytime.

Once your car is live, you have access to your own portal at dreamdrives.co.nz/owner. Log in to see your vehicle’s booking history, upcoming hires, monthly earnings statements, and payment records. No need to chase us for updates — it’s all there.

Common questions

What owners usually ask

Your vehicle is covered under our commercial rental insurance policy from the moment we collect it — including customer-caused damage, fire, and theft. A $2,000 excess applies per incident. If a customer causes damage, we pursue recovery from them, not you.

No. While your car is under our management it is covered by our commercial policy. You should not hold a conflicting private hire policy during this period. Your standard private vehicle insurance can remain in place for periods when the car is in your possession.

Yes. Let us know the dates and we'll block them from the booking calendar, provided no bookings already exist for those dates. There is a maximum of 7 personal use days per calendar month.

We're honest about this upfront. Utilisation depends on the vehicle, the season, and market demand. We price strategically to attract the right guests — not just volume. We'll give you a realistic picture before you commit.

You receive 50% of the customer's base hire fee, calculated excluding GST. If you're GST-registered, you invoice us and we pay the GST-inclusive amount — you return the GST to IRD. If you're not registered, we pay your 50% net. Monthly statements show every booking, every rate, and every payment.

30 days' written notice from either side. No penalties, no lock-in. If your car is on hire when you give notice, the agreement concludes once that booking ends.
